A full charge costs the energy your car draws from the wall times your electricity rate, and cars draw about 10 to 12 percent more than the battery's rated size while charging. The calculator below works it out for your exact car or battery size using June 2026 residential rates published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, charging loss included; the full 50-state table follows it.

Home charging cost questions

What does a full charge cost at home?
Energy drawn from the wall times your rate. A 75 kWh pack draws about 84 kWh, so at the national average of 18.34 cents per kWh a full charge is about $15.41. Your own state's rate is in the table above and in the calculator.
Why is the energy figure bigger than the pack size?
Charging is not free of loss: some energy becomes heat in the cable, the onboard converter and the pack. The figures here apply a factor of 1.12, about 12 percent, which matches the EPA's published wall energy per vehicle. Choosing a vehicle uses the EPA figure directly instead.
Where do these electricity rates come from?
The U.S. Energy Information Administration's residential rate by state for June 2026. They refresh automatically each month from the EIA source table, and the national figure quoted is EIA's own U.S. total, not an average of the state rows.
Do these figures cover public charging?
No. Every number here is a residential rate for energy bought from your own utility at home. Public network pricing is set per network and per session and is not in this dataset.
